Get 1.5 CE hours of ethics centered around boundaries in clinical practice, with special attention to common dilemmas around gifts, bartering, and letter writing. Participants will review relevant ethical codes and apply them through case-based discussions to strengthen ethical decision-making and maintain the integrity of the therapeutic relationship.
Healthy boundaries are foundational to effective counseling, yet ethical boundary-setting can feel complex in real-world practice. This 90-minute webinar will focus on the ethical dimensions of maintaining professional boundaries in the therapeutic relationship. Through the lens of the ACA Code of Ethics we will explore how clinicians can uphold professional standards while remaining culturally responsive and client-centered. Using real-world examples, we’ll examine three common areas of ethical ambiguity: receiving or declining gifts, bartering agreements, and writing letters for clients. Participants will learn how to apply ethical principles to these situations in a way that protects client welfare and professional integrity. The webinar will include interactive case discussions to explore potential boundary extensions versus crossings, the influence of counselor self-awareness, and the importance of decision making models and consultation. Participants will leave with strategies for ethically navigating complex boundary dynamics and reinforcing trust in the therapeutic alliance.
