Our Past President, Lydia Missal, will be offering a 1.5-hour online training via Zoom on suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention to meet the Idaho State continuing education requirements.

Abstract:

This presentation will explore key aspects of suicidal ideation, including risk assessment, recognition of warning signs, and implementation of effective interventions and action steps. In addition, it will emphasize the role of protective factors—particularly self-care, nervous system regulation, and principles of somatic psychology—as foundational tools for supporting individuals in crisis and those who care for them. By integrating body-based approaches, participants will gain insight into how trauma is held in the body and how somatic awareness can support healing and resilience.

Objectives:

  1. Identify at least three warning signs of suicidal ideation.

  2. Demonstrate confidence in selecting and applying appropriate interventions.

  3. Develop and implement safe and effective action plans.

  4. Identify at least three protective factors, including self-care strategies and body-based approaches that could be used for self-regulation purposes.
