Abstract:

Can you recall that client/student who was simply “too much?” Sensitivity to internal and external worlds is isolating for gifted individuals as they become “too much” for others to handle. We will explore ways for the gifted client to embrace their unique needs and understand how others experience their overexcitabilities.

Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will learn about the traits of giftedness, with a particular focus on intensity and sensitivity
  • Participants will learn about Dabrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration as a lens for fostering self-awareness and self-confidence in gifted students/clients
  • Participants will learn about overexcitabilities as they relate to the gifted experience
  • Participants will be introduced to options for therapeutic modifications for gifted clients of all ages
