LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: An individual who has long and distinguished service to the counseling profession and exemplary care for people. Nominees should maintain the highest standards of personal conduct and recognize that their personal conduct is held up to public scrutiny. They strive to be model citizens of their local communities as well as the counseling community and their broader professional community. They maintain high moral standards in their personal and professional conduct. Nominees must have demonstrated consistent and reliable contributions in all the areas of service, scholarship and teaching over an exemplary career span.
ADVOCATE “PASS IT ON BATON” AWARD: An individual who is willing to serve, teaches advocacy, and creates new paths in the counseling profession. This person’s advocacy of counseling services has a positive impact for counselors on a local, state or national level.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE “WING AWARD”: An individual who has helped people take flight through service, teaching responsibility, and creating new paths in the counseling profession. This nominee is committed to helping others and making new connections that bring us closer together as families, as neighbors, as communities, and as a Nation.

COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR: An individual who has gone beyond the call of duty by demonstrating exceptional service and achievement as a practitioner and/or counselor educator, through the application of ICA goals, exemplifying the model of an ideal counselor. This nominee demonstrates excellent rapport with clients, counselors, co-workers and the community and is highly respected among peers.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE “MEDAL OF HONOR”: An individual that is distinguished by exceptionally meritorious service to the counseling profession. The performance must be such as to merit recognition for service that is clearly exceptional. Exceptional performance of normal duty will not alone justify an award of this decoration, rather exceptional quality service above and beyond what may be expected or reimbursed, by one who truly makes a difference in other’s lives.
PUBLIC POLICY & LEGISLATION AWARD: A layperson who has demonstrated excellent advocacy by engaging in meaningful lobbying on behalf of the counseling profession.
