IMHCA Ethics Trainings

Social Media and Multiple Relationships

In March 2014, the American Counseling Association released a new Code of Ethics. The new code addresses the use of technology in counseling, with a new section dedicated to the use of social media. The use of social media can open the doors to multiple relationships with clients. This ethics workshop is designed to assist participants with facilitating discussion relevant to the use of social media in the practice of counseling, and how and when it may contribute to the development of multiple relationships. In addition it will address issues of competency in using social media in the counseling practice, how it may invade a client’s right to privacy, or breach confidentiality.Fuzzy Boundary Issues: Making Ethical Determinations.
